Nissan Repair: front axle, nissan maxima, swift motion

Question
i have a 1997 nissan maxima that i am replacing the passenger side axle. how does it come out of the transmission since it has a expander ring on it and i notice some grooves on the new one do you need to turn it.

Answer
Hi Robert -

The half shaft just pops out with a little "motivation" with a pry bar, or what I use is a tie rod end removal fork. Ensure you have good leverage and find a good place to pry against the trans and toward the front wheel. You have to snap it with one swift motion, not constant pressure.

When re-installing, ensure that the spline is seated and lined up, and press the axle straight in the transmission until it clicks. Test it by pulling it out again gently. If it does not move, then it is seated.

Hope this helps -
