Nissan Repair: Nissan Pathfinder 2001, nissan pathfinder, pack a day

Question
I'm looking to buy the above vehicle which was used by a 3 pack a day smoker
and smells bad inside, Would it be expensive and difficult to replace the
headliner to solve part of the smell problem? It has a power sunroof.

Thanks in advance

Answer
Hi Rich -

replacement of headliners could be in the neighborhood of $300, depending on where you go. In my opinion, the smell has penetrated and permeated all fabric areas of the vehicle, especially the seat and carpet. If the previous owner had the A/C on while smoking, then it is worse. Personally, the first choice (if it was up to me) is to look for another vehicle. Secondly, if you really want the car, then I would just let it breath out. It will take a while, but the smells will go away, but you will have to constantly drive with the A/C ON, and the windows open, to totally air it out.

You may try to use Febreeze or other fresheners, but they only mask the odors

Hope this helps -
