Nissan Repair: replacing maxima antenna, power antenna, salvage yard

Question
I have a 92 Maxima with a bad power antenna.  Since I've owned the car, it has not gone up or down when I turn the radio on or off.  Recently, the top of the antenna was snapped off.  The antenna motor makes a whirring noise when I turn the radio on or off as if it is attempting to move the antenna, so it seems like the motor might not be an issue.  I have access to a salvage yard with many Maxima parts available.  What parts does it sound like I need to fix the antenna and what's the best way to do this  (how do I remove them from the salvage car)?

Answer
Lisa,

The antenna and the plastic cord inside it are the problem.  The cable breaks and the antenna does not move any more.  You could replace it with a unit from a wrecking yard or get another mast from the dealer.  You have to take the end off the motor, where the antenna comes out to get the old one off and insert the cable in the hole and turn off the radio to get the new cable to suck into the motor.  I ahve had to take some apart to get the cable into the motor.  A complete replacement is the easiest way.
