Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Electrical/electronic 1998 Buick Park Ave., buick park ave, no screws

Question
QUESTION: The temp and radio control buttons on the steering wheel do not work.  The module that beeps when you press the buttons does not work.  The radio volume will go to max by itself after it is on awhile and the heater/AC will start by itself and will continue to start after it is turned off.  Would appreciate any suggestions.

ANSWER: Hi
The controls themselves are at fault.
I have run into this numerous times.
The beeping comes from the radio.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply.  Can the contacts on the buttons be repaired or must they be replaced?  Are they an assembly that can be ordered at the dealer or junkyard?  Do the leads from the contacts plug into a module ie: (body control module) before they go to the radio and heater/ac or do they go direct?  Appreciate your time, Pawl.

Answer
Hi
Controls themselves cannot be repaired (at least I never tried!)
The controls plug directly into wire harness when removed from steering wheel. No bolts no screws they held in via a tight fit. They just pop out by inserting a small pocket screwdriver and prying them out.
The steering wheel controls go directly to radio assy. just an input to radio/hvac module.
You MAY be able to locate them from a salvage yard...may have to get the hole steering wheel, though. They CAN be ordered from dealer.
I hope this all helps.
