sorry but what i need to know is when i replace this valve that is on the steel line will i loose my refrigerant charge thanks tom

I don't believe so. Most of the newer vehicles have a SCHRADER valve just like your valve stem on your tire so when you remove the small black platic cap the air does not come out of the tire.

Look up inside the underside of the new swicth that you have and if you can see a thin metal pin in the center of the switch the you will NOT lose the freon and all you have to do is unscrew the old one and screw on the new one.

If there is no PIN inside of the underside of the switch then YES you will lose the freon.
