Pontiac Repair: Computer?, digital odometer, salvage yards

Question
I reversed the battery cables on my 1988 Grand Am 2.5L 5-Speed Manual & didn't realize it until I turned over the engine and noticed a whisper of smoke from under? the dash.  I quickly hopped out and removed the battery cable & then realized what I did. I found only the "Instrument Panel" fuse blown & replaced.  The car will not start now and the digital odometer is blank when the ignition is in the "on" position.  Did I blow the computer?  If so what are the chances of finding one and how hard is it to replace?  Thanks in advance for any help you could provide!!

Answer
Hi
Unfortunatly your correct. You PROBABALLY smoked the PCM.
Good news (if any) is that is should not be too hard to find one. Most of your parts stores should be able to get one, you could try Ebay, or even try Salvage yards.
You MAY have toasted the IPCluster(digital dash).
Replace the fuse and see if it lights back up.
If not it too is probablly taosted. That will be a Dealer rebuild or salvage yard item only (unless there is a rebuild facility in your local area)
I hope this helps.
Good Luck
