RV Repair: Refrigerator/water heater/ propane problems, direct vent water heater, propane fire

Question
Hello,

I just purchased an older RV 1977 Dodge Far West.
It's in good condition but I am finding new things everyday.

First my refrigerator (Inst-Matic RV-162) is not working.  When I try to use the electric option, it trips the breakers, Then I tried using the propane side and I can get the fire to start but it goes out as soon as I release the ignition button.  I also smell propane while the fire is lit.

Second my water heater (Direct Vent Water Heater American Appl Mfg) is not working,  I can get fuel to the frig and the stove when the dial is on, but I can not get the water heater pilot light on.

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi David:
I am sorry but it sounds to me like you are in a world of hurt. None of these appliences were designed to work for 30 years and the amount of work to repair them will make it economically better for you to buy and install new ones. Besides, while trying to make these old things work you are liable to start a propane fire that will burn the whole thing up. Bill
