Arctic Cat Kitty Cat E
I have a kids snowmobile (Arctic Cat Kitty Cat) that is from the 80's but in excellent condition.  Only problem is after it heats up (7-10 mins) it bogs down, no power, and then stalls.  I can sometimes get it started again but I can't keep it running, same condition as above.  If I wait a couple hours I can get the same run time out of it.  Only distinguishing numbers is a name on the carb, Mikuni Japan.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Brent:

>>If this is a 1981 Kitty Cat, then
>>You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy;
http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. The Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Artic Cat) and Enter the Model Numbers 0250-455-1981. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select the Sectional File. Now you can View the Section of the Mower that Pertains to this Repair.
>>With the Engine being this Old, I Suggest you Check the Compression with the Engine Cold and then Again Hot when it Stalls Out.
>>Check the Plug for Fire, when it Stalls and will Not Restart or Try to Restart. If the Plug is Fire Consistently, then the Point Set should be Good.
>>From your Description there can be Several Causes for this Problem.
1->>The Ign Coil/Point Set is Bad and Requires Replacing. For this Problem the Condensor is Usually Bad, but Both the Point Set and Condenser should be Replaced.
>>Just in case Someone has Changed the Firing System to Solid State Ign, I am Including the Following Explaination.
>>If Point Set, there will be a Wire from the Coil Leading Under the Flywheel and a Wire From Under the Flywheel to the Shut Off Switch.
>>If there is No Wire from the Coil going Under the Flywheel, then there is a Wire that Attaches to the Coil Spade that Goes to the Shut Off Switch. This is an Ign Coil/Solid State Ign Coil that has a Built in Ign Module.
2->>The Gas Tank Cap is Not Venting the Tank and a Vacuum is Building in the Tank and Stopping the Gas Flow to the Carburetor. Operate the Engine with the Gas Cap Loosened.
>>If the Problem is Corrected, then Clean the Cap Vent or Replace the Cap.
3->>Worn Rings.
>>The Rings are Worn to the Point that they cannot Expand to the Point Required when the Engine Heats Up and you have Compression Loss when Hot, Power Loss, and Engine Stalls Out.
>>Replace the Rings by Performing a Engine Short Overhaul.
>>An Engine Short Overhaul is Replacing the Rings and Replacing the Point Set (if Applicable).
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
