Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine runs good -for 9 minutes, then runsdown, briggs and stratton, ac volts

I have a Murray 10hp 30" ride on, model 309008x99b, lawn mower.
I had trouble with the starter cable connector that came loose because of too much twist. "Was fixed" and engine started and ran fine for about 9 minutes. The engine then began to rundown. I have recharged the battery, but have not tried to start it.

I wonder if my starter fix may be causing the problem. The starter connector tested short to ground even before a good restart.

Further tests between the battery cable and the starter cable measures 2000 ohms.  I have not checked the battery voltage to see if I am charging correctly during running.

Please help?

Answer
Hello Ken:

From your Description it Sounds like the Stator is Not Charging. 7 to 15 Minutes is the Usual Run Time for a Mower with an Electric PTO to Draw the Battery to the Point it No Longer has Enough Voltage to Keep the Carburetor Solenoid Open and the Engine Quits. For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs. You can View a Breakdown of this Mower At this Site Addy; http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Lookup. Select the Model Tab. Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers (309008x99b). Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Now Select Sectional View. Now Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View. You can Also View a Breakdown of the Briggs and Stratton Engine at the Same Site Addy. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
