Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Primer bulb replacement, retaining ring, special tools

We need to replace the primer bulb on our B&S 6.5 OHV lawn mower engine and could use your help. Where do we start??? The model no. of the engine is 120602 0164. I'm not sure if we can just replace the bulb or if we have to replace the whole section. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you look closely at the primer bulb you will see two tabs on the retaining ring.  Briggs sells some special tools to remove and install the primer but a screwdiver will work.

The Briggs tool squeezes the two tabs in to unlock the retaining ring.  You can use a screwdriver or two to do the same thing.  Briggs also sell a special install tool but an old socket, piece of conduit or pipe can be used to re-install the retaining ring.

Basically, squeeze the two tabs to unlock the retaining ring.  Remove the ring then the primer bulb.  Install new primer bulb and then the new retaining ring.  That's it.
