Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Villiers 4 stroke motor, driving shaft, point gap

Question
Thank you for your answer re timing this motor. I have now managed to get my hands on a book - part of which i do not understand.
Under "magneto timing" it says "Always set the contact breaker points BEFORE timing the magneto, because any alteration to the point gap alters the ignition timing".
The difficulty I have with this is that the contact breaker cam on the flywheel could be "anywhere in 360 degrees" before setting the points!! If its on the "flat" the points will be closed and if set at that point - the gap will become greater! If its on the "high" then the points will be .012" to .015" maximum. Can you please put this in words that I can understand please?

Answer
Hi Ian:

No Worries. Set the Points so they will be "on the High" as you Put it. The Flywheel Key Sets When the Point Set Fires During the Power Stroke. Once the Points are Set "on the High" to .015in., Replace the Flywheel and Torque to the Specifications in the Manual. Follow the Manual from here and Let me Know if you Have Any More Questions. Hope this Helps. I am Here if you Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Hi Ian:

Sorry, I Forgot about this Model. Thanks for Reminding Me. The magneto is timed so that the contact breaker points commence to open when the piston is 3/16" before top dead center. A rough check on the position may be made without removing the cylinder head, by observing the position of the keyway on the driving shaft when the points are just opening. The keyway should then be 27deg before top. Accurate timing can only be done with the piston visible. Set the Cam so it is Just Starting to Open the Point Set. The Piston Should be 3/16' from TDC. Set the Point Set Contacts at .001in. Use the Keyway on the Crankshaft to Check for the Magnet being Set Correctly. Let me Know What Happens, Please.
