Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro Transmission Problem, forward gears, assembly drawings

Question
"Hi John,

I have an older Toro 8-32 riding lawn mower, Model #56145 serial # 3004335. I
have off an on had some trouble shifting into the forward speeds. I adjsted the
linkage brakets with limited success for a while, but now I can't shift into
forward speeds at all. When I disconnect the linkage at the transmission I still
cannot shift into forward gears with a wrench on the linkage shaft . Reverse
works fine, I assume the transmission is the issue. Any other thoughts? The
mower otherwise runs good, is it worth repairing?

BTW-This question was previuosly forwarded to Curt, but I had not recieved a reply back.

Thanks,

Dan"

Answer
 Hello Dan:

You can View the Transaxle in Breakdown/IPL Form at this Addy https://lookup2.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Search. The Last Mower Listed is Yours. Click on View Assembly Drawings. Then Select the Transmission Model 770. From your Description, you have Tried to Shift the Transmission with a Wrench at the Transmission and it will Move into Reverse but Not into Forward Gears. Look at the Breakdown/IPL of the Transmission. Diagram Numbers 37 and 9 are Usualy the Cause for this Problem if #37 is Worn it will Lock Up the Shifter Collar(#9) and Not Allow the Shifter Rod and Fork Assembly to Move. You Use the Forward Side and the Forward Key Wears More than Reverse. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
