Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): String trimmer, electric line trimmer, amp electric

Question
I own a Craftsman 17 in. 5.5 amp. electric line trimmer. The other day I was cutting my grass when suddenly the trimmer continued running but showed no actual force to make the head cut the grass.
I did not hear any unusualk sounf coming from the trimmer but it looks like something broke inside. Is this problem correctable. I was temped to unscrew the many screws  the head has, but I opted to check with an expert before I either repair it or throw it away.
Can you give me some info about what's the problem?
Thanks from sunny Puerto Rico.

Answer
I haven't repaired an electric trimmer in over 10 years...cheaper to just go buy a new one rather than pay $25.00 to $50.00 per hour for labor.

If I were you, I'd open it up and see what broke.  You haven't got much to loose since it's already broke.  There's not much too those trimmers; cord, switch and an electric motor.  If the cord and switch are fine the motor is probably bad and not worth repairing.

Let me know what you find.  I'm always interested in these types of problems.
