Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda mower smoke, white plume, honda mower

Question
Have a Honda self-propelled mower (Model HR214SX) that I purchased in 1988.  It is in excellent condition appearance-wise and starts on the first pull.  Recently it has begun to smoke (heavy white plume) after it is put into gear (blade engaged and/or drive engaged).  It stops this after a few moments, however.  Is this possibly from oil put into sparkplug hole when "winterizing" or from oil overfill? Oil level checks to be OKAY.

Thanks for any advice.

Answer
Could be a little of both.  Have you recently changed the oil?  Changing the oil will sometimes help reduce oil burning.

I wouldn't worry too much about a little white smoke, especially for it's age.

Do you use the same brand of oil everytime.
Let me know.
