Steering Column Repair: Ignition SW bypass, metal brackets, monday car

Question
93 Honda Accord 4-door LX ignition switch bad. Start but only runs with key half way, let go of key dead. Pulled switch and leery of taking it apart. Get that feeling that a spring will send everything flying deal. So I can't get another switch until I get paid. I can't get paid if I don't got to work Monday. Car won't run. Can I bypass switch by toggle switching wires Solid white labeled(Bat)and Black/yellow stripe labeled(IG1)and use key to start and not burn anything up until next week. Then I can afford to buy part and replace. Can't leave the house without my car running. I am 15 miles from part house stuck here. I think I can do this but DO NOT WANT TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE. Please help.

Thanks
jc

Answer
Hi JC:

I think you will be ok doing what you suggest.  I have never done it but there's no reason not to if you are careful.  The ignition switch is $61 from the dealer (probably much less at a parts store).  It's just a switch held in by 2 screws and you are set to go.  Nothing is going to go boing!
If you do jump it, be very careful not to touch the metal brackets all around the switch.  It will pop a master fuse under the hood that is HONDA only and about $10.

Good luck
Doug
