Subaru Repair: 2000 Subaru Outback legancy, subaru outback, gas gauge

Question
I just brought a used 2000 subaru outback all wheel driver with over 200,000 miles. The check engine light come on, had it put on a computer the code was P0420. The guy said he could not really tell what the problem was it is a general code. The dealer guarantee the catalytic coverter for 6 months. Which i only plan on having it for that lenght of time.  But should I have him guarantee anything else. From what i have been reading it is the oxygen senors i should be worried about. It uses alot of gas. I have went only 175 miles and already down to 1/2 tank.

Help

Answer
Lori,

What is it exactly you want to know?

I would suggest having someone who knows what they are doing have a look at the car and go from there.  P0420 is a catalyst code and is very diagnosable.

You can read up on the check engine light here

As far as who should guarantee what and for how long I cant answer that.

The gas gauge cant be used in sections to figure out economy it is not a precision measuring device at all.  To figure out your actual economy you need to measure the fuel used on the next fill up.
