Towing Issues: Towing, tow yard, tow truck

Question
Hello,

I really need some help with my towing issues.
Last night I went to the beach with two small children and my sister. I parked my car on the side walk and apparently a small sign side they would tow after 10 pm. I walked to my car at 10:10 and I watch the man towing my car... I ran after him, he continued to drive. I had to get the children car seat out of the car but the driver would allow me.. what can I do legally?

Answer
well from what I read in this question, you were parked on the sidewalk (that's a no no) and you got towed after 10 PM.

You caught the tow truck or did you? and you wanted the car seats out of the vehicle.

Generally you are able to get some belongings out of the vehicle such as ID, keys, prescriptions and such. Car seats might be a bit of a stretch there, and each state has different laws about what you are able to get without paying for the tow. Legal or not, it depends on the laws of the city or state...

Now if you did catch the tow truck, were you offered the chance to pay a fee right then to get your vehicle back? or were you told it could only be picked up at the tow yard.
You will have to pay more at the yard, which will include storage and other fees so its cheaper on location. But some companies do tend to go for as much as they can get from "CUSTOMERS"
