Toyota Repair: 1993 Toyota Pickup, 4wd, 22RE, smog inspections, emission control systems

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1993 Toyota pickup, 4wd, 22re, appx. 195,000 miles.  When the truck warms up it starts to sputter or miss out.  After it gets up to around 3200 rpms, it takes off & runs fine from there.  I've tried changing the spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, computer, throttle sensor.  All this made no difference.  When the throttle sensor is unplugged it runs great, but it sucks the gas.  I've taken it to a Toyota "specialist", they've hooked it up to their analyzer, but can't figure out the problem.  Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

ANSWER: Did the check engine light ever come on and is it on now?

QUESTION: The light came on 3 days ago for the 1st time & is still on now.  The problem we're having has been ongoing for 2 months.  3 days ago we changed the computer out with another Toyota we have to see if that could be the problem.  After doing that we plugged the throttle sensor back in.  The truck seemed to run fine cold.  After it warmed up it started sputtering again.  We unplugged the throttle sensor & that's when the check engine light came on.  It's the first time the light came on throughout all we've tried.  After reading some of the other questions/answers we took the cat. converter off today, plugged the throttle sensor back in, the check engine light went off & the truck ran fine.  That appears to be the problem, or one of them.  Is there anything else associated with this that we may need to check?  Does the cat. converter have to be replaced or will the truck run properly without one or with one that's cleaned out?  Thank you so much!

Answer
The cat converter may be restricted and it should be replaced, it will run without one but the truck won't pass the next emission test if the area you live in requires periodic smog inspections and in some states tampering with or removing emission control systems may be against the law.
