Toyota Repair: 2000 Tundra-Rear Axle seal..., rear axle seal, bearing retainer

Question
Mike,

I am working on repairing the driver side rear axle seal on 2000 Tundra 4x4 4.7 (170,000 miles) equipped with rear drum and ABS.  Have disassembled to the point where I have removed the axle shaft from the vehicle.  My question is in regards to now getting to the point where I can remove the seals and replace them.  I am sitting with the shaft and the entire wheel cylinder and don't know how to break down any further to replace the seals (not the ones on the rear axe housing).  Do you punch out the four mounting bolts that mount the wheel cylinder to the rear axle housing and this will allow access to the seals?  Any help you can provide I would appreciate.

Thanks,
Will

Answer
why are you changing them?
The seal that leaks gear oil is inside the axle tube.

Anyways youll need special service tools to press   the ABS ring and the bearing retainer off and on,.
Youll need new ones as the get bent taking them apart.

Heres a thought.....
Bring the new parts to the back door of the dealer with a 20 $ bill and see if you can gat a tech to do it on his lunch.
