Our 2001 Toyota Sequoia's driver side electric mirror has a problem.  We have never had any repairs performed on this item and have had no problems until now.  After the car was parked outside for about 4 hours (temp was about 80, sunny), I started the car and heard a tapping noise coming from the mirror.  The tapping noise would not stop even after I used the control on the driver's door to move the mirror around AND after I pressed the button that folds in both the driver's side and the passenger's side mirror AND after I turned the car off for about 1 minute.  The car sat overnight in our garage and when we start the car it still taps.  There doesn't appear to be any physical damage on or around the mirror.  Any thoughts?
Answer -
The mirror has two small motors inside that move the glass, it is possible that the mirror itself has the problem and it sounds like one of the motors is causing this noise, I recommend replacing the entire mirror.

Just want to make sure I explain everything -- The tapping stops when I have both mirrors folded in.  Also, I can move the driver's side mirror even though the tapping noise continues.  Do you still think it's a motor problem even though I can move the mirror?  Finally, do you think I should contact Toyota to see if they have had problems with other mirrors and if they would give me a break on the cost of a mirror.  Can you recommend a good source for purchasing and installing a new mirror in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois?  Thank you.

Answer
I have checked with Toyota's technical information system to see if there were any bulletins issued regarding this noise and there are none.
Contacting toyota's customer service number won't help much they will just tell you to contact your local dealer which is what I'm going to do, I have not encountered this problem so I can't really help, the mirror is very expensive so I would recommend having the toyota dealer take a look at this and make a recommendation and course of action to take.
