Question
My Case 2390 has a loader on it. When I start it the loader won't raise and it steers very hard. The transmission light comes on until it get warm. Then the transmission light comes on and off. What could be the proble?.

Answer
Hello,

First make sure it's full of oil and change the hydraulic filters if you haven't already done so.  If that doesn't help, some diagnosing with pressure gauges will be necessary.  This is a pressure flow compensated system, so there is no easy answer without checking the pressures.  The charge pressure should be no lower than 30psi.  If it's low even with new filters, then the internal suction screen could be plugged or the charge relief valve could be stuck open.  You can put a gauge in the charge pressure tube where the sending unit is located for the filter restriction light.  The low pressure standby should be about 600 psi.  To check it, you need to disconnect the signal line at the compensator valve and plug it.  Then put a gauge in a remote coupler and pull the lever.  The high pressure standby should be about 2200psi.  To check it, hook the signal line back up to the compensator valve and check the pressure at the remote again.
