UK Car Repair: Peugot 405 1995 petrol Injection 1580cc, catalytic convertor, lambda sensor

Question
HI, My Peugot 405 GLX Estate stalls at low revs intermittently especially when slowing down to pull up at junctions etc: it is usually happens when the car has warmed up. Most recently it stalled as I was turning right after slowing down.
Fuel lines, pump and filters etc have been checked. I have heard a Lambda Sensor ( what is this and how could I check it) might be to blame but could it be sticking valves?

The car is a 1580 cc petrol 4 cylinder Injection model dating from 1995. It does not have a catalytic convertor. The car has done 140000 miles and has had 5 previous owners. I got it cheaply and now know why but it drives nicely apart from this stalling characteristic.

Best Wishes

Chris

Answer
Vacuum pipe from manifold to throttle body could be leaking.
Also check the engine breather pipes are not blocked and are properly connected - these engines have a bad tendency to fill with sludge - if the rocker box is filthy you should use an engine flush like wynns flush, asd also wash every pipe under the bonnet with paraffin to get the sludge out, also the throttle body should be cleaned thoroughly with carb cleaner before you suspect any broken parts.
(use only fully synthetic oil after the engine flush (if needed), to prevent sludge - it's more expensive for a reason!)

Once you know the engine is good and clean then take the car to a parts shop or garage and get a diagnostic scan run on the ECU - get it done for under £20 if you can.
Tell me the error codes this scan brings up and I can diagnose -
(If it's not a gummed up top end as I think it could be.)
Or vacuum line.
Also check the air filter, airbox and air duct are properly fitted and there are no air leaks.
