Volvo Repair: 93 850 GLT Oil leak, flame trap, plastic filter

Question
All of a sudden, this Volvo started spewing oil any possible place. Through the cap, the dipstick, you name it. A local mechanic said the compression is way off (too high) and causing this. He doesn't know much about Volvo's and isn't if replacing compression unit would fix. My father said he had a similiar problem and it was just a clogged tube. Any idea?
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Your father is right. The volvo has a thing called a flame trap which sits under the throttle body area. The flame trap is like a pcv valve on other cars. It's function is to vent the gas fumes from the crankcase and reburn it.
Follow the hoses under the throttle, about an inch in diameter with some curves to it. It'll lead to a plastic fitting and then to other hoses. Check all of them for restriction. The flame trap is a little plastic filter in between the hose. Clean or replace it. Should be done every 10 to 20 thousand miles.
