Cadillac: 94 Eldorado ETC Northstar No Start Question, engine computer, internal components

Question
I took my 1994 Eldorado ETC to the shop for them to fix it. It originally went into the shop because it will not start. Well it's been 2 months and its still at the shop! Here's what they've replaced so far:

One of the two crank sensors

All four coil packs including the coil module

The alternator

The battery

The engine computer - they said the check engine light would not light up so they replaced the computer with another one - now the check engine light comes on

Several wires were found melted on the top of the exhaust so they replaced them

Even with all of this, the car will not crank! There is absolutely no spark whatsoever, and now when the car is being cranked it doesn't sound nearly as robust as it used to. Every once in awhile it will backfire when cranked but that happens once every 50 or so cranks. The mechanics want to investigate the internals of the engine but we can't even get spark!

This car cut off while coasting to a stop at a stop light. Then I was able to restart it after considerable attempts, but it only made it to the next stop light where it died - for good.

Codes are cleared.

Now the car is sitting in front of the mechanic's shop and they claim they want to get other opinions on it before going any further. In the meanwhile I'm screwed!

So therefore any advice from anyone would be appreciated. I don't mind going over there and trying anything - I just don't know what else to try! Thanks.

Answer
It's quite obvious that they have NO CLUE as to what they are doing, Besides installing parts and wasting your money.

Looking at the internal components of the engine makes NO SENSE if they can't get ignition to the plugs. If they have COMPRESSION and valve timing, Looking inside the engine is useless.

When the wires burned on the engine this should have told them that they needed to taest each and every circuit that these burnt wires went to.

Your in for long lengthy diagnostic procedures by a professional tech who knows what they are doing.

As for an exact cause, there is not any, without doing some complex testing. If you lived in New Mexico you could have it sent to my shop and you would have it back within a week, depending upon parts availability if needed.

Your pretty well stuck to look for a competent facility who can perform the diagnostics that are required.

I wish I had a simple answer for you, But there just is not one.
