Dodge: Engine missing, dodge ram1500, spark plug wires

Question
Three days ago, I had a 2001 Dodge RAM1500 V6 3.9L in perfect running condition with 53,000 miles on it.
I was doing 65 mph on the highway when it suddenly started missing badly.  There was a noise like something was touching the fan.  I replaced the spark plug wires and the cap and rotor.  It was still missing.  I took it to the Dodge dealership where I bought it and they put it on their diagnostic machine.  They said the porcelain was cracked on one spark plug.  I replaced the plugs with Champion platinum plugs.  It was still missing.  I took it back to Dodge and they said it needed copper plugs so I put in copper plugs.  It was still missing.  I took it back to Dodge and they did a diagnostic again.  They said there was low fuel pressure and for another $1,000 they would replace the fuel pump and check compression but that would not solve the problem.  So, I brought it home and pulled the valve cover.  The rocker arms, valve springs and push rods all look good.  One thing I found was gasoline on the #5 spark plug but it is sparking so I am confused.  If you have any suggestions of what else I can check, please let me know.  Thank you for your time.  Ed Kaiser

Answer
Ed,
I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The problem you are having sounds like a broken valve spring or bent valve. You can remove the valve cover to check for a broken spring.Don't pay them the $1000.00 to change the pump. That's crazy if they told you they would change the the pump but it wouldn't fix the problem,These places crack me up.Next time tell them to just replace everything on the vehicle including the steering wheel and maybe just by accident that will fix the problem.Because it sounds to me that this is what they are saying, just change parts until we find it.Has the engine light been on?if so you can go to autozone and have it scanned, but normally this is a sensor which may not be the case here. These new cars are so complex that everything is by computer and the problem that you don't check could very well be the issue. You say the noise was like something was touching the fan, sometimes it's hard to tell exactly where the sound is and it could be the valves or valve springs. You've tuned it up so this is what i'd check.
