GM-GMC: 1997 gmc truck rear end replacement, gmc sierra, gmc truck

Question
I have a 1997 gmc sierra 1500 extended cab pick up with a 5.7 liter eng.auto trans.with over drive. the rear end is humming & I want to know what is the latest year  gmc truck that I can use to replace it. I was quoted up to $3000 for repairs. I need to get a junk yard replacement.

Answer
just fyi.. because i did not give you the answer you wanted does not mean i am not right.. unfortunatly you are asking a question about putting a rear end that was not made for you truck but may fit.. that is a different question then what you asked to begin with.. i would not have info on what new rear ends fit your vehicle i would only have the into i gave you and that is any truck that carries your bodystyle the rear end will work .. if you are lookin for answers to what might fit your truck that wasnt made for it go to dlr ask them thanks.

definitely would go the same route if i were you. however what years you could use i would say depend on how many years they carried the body style of your truck.. they generally change eng, trans, rear axle stuff when they over haul the body. so any chevy or gmc truck within your body style would probably work. but you can also check local junkyards and ask them for what you need and they will tell you if they have something that will work and not exactly your year. i have repaired many cars from junked ones. make sure when you got those quotes i hope you got them to tell you the problem so you know exactly what to fix.
