Hyundai: Hyundai gas gauge question, gallon gas tank, hyundai scoupe

Question
I have a 1994 Hyundai Scoupe with 86,000 miles.  I was looking up random things on the internet the other day and I found out that my Scoupe has a 11.9-gallon gas tank.  However, I can drive around on empty for a week and then fill up my tank with only 6.5 gallons of gas.  Is something wrong with my gas gauge or gas tank?

Answer
Hey Rebecca.  It's hard to say.  Most Hyundia's, except for the excels, have between 11.2 - 11.9 tanks.  In a full tanks, you should get 265 miles, granted your not in the city.  Main point is this, does your gas light come on, or does it stay on while it's on E but you can still drive?  Either way it's a costly matter to try to solve. One main way is to purchase a new dashboard console.  That will tell you if it's a gauge or tank issue.  Your situation is harder do to price to solve the issue.  What I would do is go by your miles gauge.  If you get to about 250 miles, it's time to refill, safest bet.  But you can find a console at ebay.  I hope this helps.  If you need anything else just email me.  Thanks. Have a good one!
