Mercedes: No low beams on 1992 500SL, low beams, high beams

Question
Both low beam went out, however high beams and driving lights are ok. Checked both fuses. when checked with a voltage meter, I have power at the bottom of the fuse receptacles when the fuse is removed, however, when replaced...no voltage reading. Does this sound like the control unit (1295420132)? If so, how can I test it without purchasing a new one to see if it fixes the problem?
I appreciate your assistance!

Answer
Rob,
Where are you taking the reading after install of the fuse. If you are taking a reading between the chassis and the fuse after reinstall, the you should not be getting a reading if the circuit is already being made.
The head lamp assembly probably uses a low voltage coil through the switch to engage the high amperage side of the circuit to the bulbs. Because there are separate points to provide power to the various lamps then some of those could be bad.
You may be able to get your local parts house to sell you the relay with the understanding that it can be returned with a small restock fee if the problem is not cured.
Let me know what you find out.
Good Luck
Rob
