Volkswagen: 1973 transporter, haynes book, delivery problem

Question
I am using the haynes service manual.
I was wondering if you could help me with a problem. My bus seems to misfire at about 50-55 mph. I checked the plugs they are ok. It does not do it all the time only sometimes. It either does it or does not do it. I am wondering if I maybe have a fuel delivery problem. The pump is new. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hey Jared,

This is really a common problem.  Most likely you need new points, cap, rotor, and condensor. (for the distributor)

Next, you will need to time the ignition to what the Haynes book says, and your surging problem should be fixed.

This whole job should cost under $35.00,  and take you about an hour and a half to do.

Let me know how you make out.
