Volkswagen: turbo lag 2000 jetta TDI, air flow meter, jetta tdi

Question
I own a 2000 Jetta TDI with 94,000 mile on it. It seems to have lost its low end power and the turbo sometimes won't spool up at 2800 RPM and also driving at freeway speeds 60mph +. If I turn the car off and back on it seems to reset the turbo and it's fine but I would rather fix the problem. I don't have a manual for the car yet, what would you suggest?

Thank you,

wyatt

Answer
Hi Wyatt,

The most common problem I am aware of, which cause intermittent turbo problems in the TDI is a defective air flow meter.

It can become clogged, and often need to be replaced.

Start there.

I did a little research for you, and you can expect to spend about 250.00 USD for a complete professional repair of that device.

Again, that is most likely your culprit. Let me know how you make out.
