4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: wheel bearing lock-up, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

Question
when I turn left or right, forward or reverse, there is a straining sound in the front end and the 96 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2 will lock up if turned to hard. This happens when i am going slow, i was told by a mechanic friend it sounds like a hub bearing but we could see no metal shavings in the front. there is a out of round sound coming from the rear(right i belive) and he said that a bad bearing on the rear could be the problem. Do you think that this is the problem, and about how much would a shop charge me for parts and labor? Thanks so much, what a great service.

Answer
I cant tell you how much for parts and labor, but it sounds like the wheel bearings, you can usualy replace them yourself, and some shops will install parts for you if you already have them, and they will charge you just for labor. I would shop around and look for the best deal in town. Hope this helps.
