Tires: Toyota Corolla tires, proper inflation pressure, computer mistake

Question
Ijust purchased 4 new tires for my 2003 toyota at a good price.  However, I was told there were two compatible sizes for that year and I chose the P185/65R15 instead of the P19565R1 which was on the car because it was cheaper. When I looked at my printout it had my toyota listed as a 2001 --(could I have told him the wrong year??)  Was it a computer mistake?  Now I'm worried that I'm driving with incorrect tires.  Help!

Answer
Catherine,

There are some differences between 2001 and 2003 Toyota's but I can't sort this out because I don't know what odel of toyota you have.

But you can solve this mystery yourself.

Every vehicle sold in the US has a vehicle placard that lists the original tire size and the proper inflation pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box, but it can also be found on the fuel filler door or in the trunk.

Find the placard, and you'll find out what is supposed to be on the car.  If it is wrong, then return the tires and explain your mistake.  It might cost you a little money, but that would be a lot better than having a tire failure.
