Used Cars: Sell car with a lien, lien holders, lien holder

Question
QUESTION: I am trying to sell a car (made in year 2000) with a lien on it. I bought it from the original owner 1.5 years ago. We signed the bill of sale and he certified the car was free of lien. However, I did not get the paper of lien release from him. So my current title still has a lien record on it, and I find it might be a problem for me to sell my car. What should I do to take the lien record off the tile?

Thanks a lot!

ANSWER: Best thing to do is take the title to the DMV and let them do their thing... more than likely they will make you contact the lien holder and verify the lien is lifted... probably some paper-work.. etc.. if the lien is over then it shouldn't be hard to verify with the DMV.

QUESTION: Thanks for the prompt reply. I have another concern, I am not the original owner who initiated the lien, do I have problem for those potential paper-works?

Answer
They should be able to contact the person who did initiate the lien - and deal with that stuff through whomever the previous owner may be - the DMV should have the lien holders information. This shouldn't affect you... aslong as the lien has actually been lifted...
