Trucking: Starting a trucking Business, trucking business, cargo insurance

Question
Hello, I'm in Athens, GA. I have an opportunity to haul for company. They have there own trailers with insurance. I know I need to get a tractor, register / Tax / Tag it, and insurance for the tractor. Do I need to carry a type of cargo insurance? Also, how do I become a company? Incorporate, D.O.T number, IFTA, and so on. I will be hauling HazMat, is there any government agency I would have to sign up with? Thank You for your time.

Answer
Hi R. Cardona,  To start a Trucking Company: Buy a Tractor,
New or Fairly new used one with around 300,00 miles or less.
Tandem Axle. Insure it with Liablity and Collision and register it with State. If operating out of state, need IRP
TAG on tractor. Get IFTA fuel permit and sticker. If company does not furnish cargo insurance, you will need that.  If not leasing to company, will need DOT NUMBER, FEDERAL AUTHORITY, SINGLE STATE REGISTRATION AND PROCESS AGENTS.  These, my company can help you with.
