How to Repair a Nick in the Windshield

Your car's windshield was built to withstand intense pressure and force. However, like any other glass material, it can crack and nick easily if flying objects hit it at high speeds. So, you will need to repair the nick before it grows larger and extends across the windshield surface. Using a simple liquid resin application is one of the best repair methods.

Things You'll Need

  • Mild dish detergent
  • Hose and water
  • Bucket
  • Soft cloths
  • Safety goggles
  • Denatured alcohol
  • Razor blade
  • Adhesive syringe
  • Liquid resin adhesive
  • Clean the entire window with warm water and mild soap. Rinse it off with water and then allow it to air dry and use a dry cloth if necessary.

  • Soak the corner of a cloth with the denatured alcohol and apply it to the nicked area to remove any build-up.

  • Fill the syringe with resin by pushing the syringe rubber end forward all the way, placing the tip into the resin bottle, and drawing back on the rubber end until the syringe is full.

  • Apply a small amount of resin to the nicked area and allow it to dry for an hour or so.

  • Scrape the excess resin off of the surface with the edge of the razor blade. Be careful not to cut yourself.
