The Honda Accord has gone through some drastic overhauls since its introduction in 1976. One of the more drastic ones occurred in the sixth generation -- 1998 through 2002. Gone was the bland and bloated look from the fifth generation and in came the sleeker looking and larger Accord. One braking safety feature on the 1999 Accord that drivers often overlook is the high-mount brake light. This brake light illuminates closer to eye level of the driver's behind you and operates independent of the taillights -- it only illuminates when you press the brake pedal; the light seems hidden at first glance, but you can easily access it to replace a burned-out bulb from inside the trunk.
Open the Accord's trunk and locate the center, high-mount stop lamp socket plugging into base of the high-mount stop lamp assembly -- near the center of the rear window deck frame.
Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise to unlock it, and pull the socket and bulb from the high-mount stop lamp assembly.
Pull the old bulb from the socket. Grab a new 7440 light bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and press it into the socket. The cloth prevents the oils on your hand from contacting the bulb and possibly causing premature bulb failure.
Insert the bulb and new socket into the high-mount stop lamp assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place. Close the Accord's trunk.
