Chevy Power Mirror Won't Retract

Many Chevrolet vehicles are equipped with power side mirrors that allow the driver to control the mirrors from inside the vehicle. If the mirrors begin to malfunction, the problem is most likely connected to the mirror's fuse or wiring, so start by checking for a blown fuse or a wiring connection that has come loose. In either case, the problem is fairly simple to fix and should not take more than an hour, even with disassembling the door to access the side mirror.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Slotted screwdriver
  • Open the hood of the Chevrolet vehicle and locate the under-hood fuse panel in the upper-right corner of the engine compartment.

  • Remove the cover from the under-hood fuse panel and locate the fuses labeled "RR PARK" and "LR PARK." If either of the fuses are blown out or broken, you will need to remove them and install a replacement 15A fuse. If the mirrors are still malfunctioning, you will need to check the mirror wiring.

  • Open the door of your Chevrolet vehicle and remove the ten black plastic poppets along the edge of the inner-door panel with a slotted screwdriver.

  • Pop out the armrest console and the door locking plate with a slotted screwdriver. Pull the inner-door panel off of the door to access the mirror.

  • Uninstall the mirror's three bolts using a socket wrench. Pull on the mirror's electrical connector to ensure that it is secured. If it is not secured or if it comes loose, securely connect it to the mirror. If the mirrors are still malfunctioning, then the issue is with the mirrors.

  • Squeeze the mirror's plastic electrical connector tab to disconnect the connector. Remove the mirror from the door. Install a replacement mirror, connect its connector, and reinstall the three bolts.

  • Reattach the inner-door panel and its ten black poppets. Reattach the armrest console and the door locking plate. Close the door.
