How to Change the Dash Lights on a 2000 Honda Accord

The 2000 Honda Accord is made so that the dash lights are easy to reach. This is helpful if a light goes out on your dashboard. There are only two screws that hold on the trim and four screws that hold on the instrument cluster. The bulbs are on the back of the instrument cluster, so all you have to do is pull it out and change the bulb.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement dash bulbs
  • Masking tape
  • Find the two screws at the top of the instrument panel trim cover on the driver's side. The instrument panel is directly in front of the driver's seat, where the speedometer and fuel gauge are located. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove them and tape them to the dashboard. Write where the screws came from on the tape so the screws do not get lost or mixed up with screws of different sizes. Pull the trim away from the dashboard.

  • Unscrew the four screws around the instrument panel. There will be two on the top and two on the bottom. When you have removed these screws, tape them to the dashboard and write where they go on the tape. Pull the cluster assembly forward just enough to get your hand behind it.

  • Unplug the wiring harnesses from the cluster assembly by pressing in on the tabs on the sides of the harnesses and pulling them off. Remove the cluster assembly from the dash completely and turn it over to work on the back. Turn the bulb that needs to be replaced counterclockwise and remove it from the panel. Place the new bulb in its place and turn it clockwise to seat it in place.

  • Place the cluster back in the dash so you can get your arm behind it. Plug the wire connectors back into place on the proper plugs. The connectors will be of different sizes, so you can correctly place the connectors. Push the instrument cluster back into place.

  • Screw in the four screws that hold the instrument cluster in place. Replace the trim and the two screws that hold it in place. Turn on the dashboard lights to test the lights.
