The Jeep Grand Cherokee features a multi-function headlight switch attached to the steering column. The headlight switch allows the driver to change from high beams to low beams and turn on or off the turning signals. If any of these functions do not work the headlight switch may need to be replaced. Fortunately, replacing the headlight switch on the Grand Cherokee is a rather straightforward task. The entire procedure shouldn't take more than half an hour and does not require any special tools.
Turn off the Grand Cherokee and prop open the hood.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from inside the engine compartment.
Sit in the driver seat and remove the three screws from below the steering column shroud that holds the bottom shroud to the top shroud and pull apart the two halves of the shroud.
Remove the two screws that secure the headlight switch bracket to the steering column.
Remove the single screw from the headlight switch stalk that also secures the bracket to the steering column.
Pull the headlight switch bracket away from the steering wheel column to reveal the two wiring harnesses to the headlight switch and unplug these two wiring harnesses.
Pull off the headlight switch from the bracket.
Install the replacement switch by mounting it to the bracket, connecting the two wiring harnesses, and resecuring the three screws you removed earlier. Replace the steering wheel column shroud.
Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
