The Chrysler 300M has a receiver/dryer in place of an accumulator in its air conditioning system. The receiver/dryer is located between the condenser and the evaporator, whereas an accumulator is used between the outlet side of the evaporator and the compressor. The system must be evacuated of Freon before it can be disassembled--this requires certain equipment to capture the Freon, as it is illegal to release the Freon into the atmosphere.
Evacuate the Freon from the air conditioning system, using the reclaimer. Connect both the red high side and blue low sidelines from the reclaimer to their respective Schraeder valves. Evacuate the system until the red high side gauge shows that the system is in a 30-inch vacuum, before turning the reclaimer off.
Remove the two bolts that secure the inlet and outlet sidelines from the top of the receiver/dryer, using the appropriate socket.
Remove the bolt on the side of the receiver bracket (it tightens the bracket around the receiver, securing it in place), using a socket.
Fill the new receiver with six ounces of refrigerant oil.
Install the receiver into its bracket, but do not tighten the bolt yet. Install the inlet and outlet sidelines to the top of the receiver, but make sure that the O-rings are in good shape first (if not, replace the O-rings). Install the bolts. Tighten the bolts. Tighten the bolt on the side of the receiver bracket.
Turn the reclaimer on. Vacuum the system down to 30 inches of vacuum for at least 15 minutes. Charge the air conditioning system with 1.75 pounds of R134 Freon.
