How to Change a Headlight on a 1991 Honda Accord

The headlights on your 1991 Honda Accord should be in working order at all times. Most states require that you maintain all of the lights on your vehicle. If you drive your Accord with a burned-out light, you risk getting a ticket for the failed light. You can save a costly repair bill by replacing your Accord's lights at home. The 1991 Accord uses a 9006 low beam and 9005 high beam bulb, available at auto parts stores.

  • Raise the hood of your Accord and prop it on the support rod.

  • Pull the wiring harness connection from the rear of the headlight bulb. You may need to wiggle the connection to break it free.

  • Turn the bulb retaining ring counterclockwise to remove it from the headlight assembly. Set the retaining ring aside.

  • Pull the headlight bulb straight out of the assembly. Discard the old bulb. Insert the replacement bulb straight into the headlight assembly following the same alignment as the one you removed.

  • Insert the bulb retaining ring and turn it clockwise to lock it into position. Press the electrical connection into place until it clicks.

  • Repeat the process on the opposite side, if needed. Close the hood and test the operation of the new headlights.
