How to Remove Door Trim on a Subaru WRX

The Subaru WRX, officially known as the Subaru Impreza WRX, is a high-performance version of the popular Subaru Impreza sedan. Since most of the WRX upgrades are under the hood and on the exterior, removing the door trim in a WRX is the same as in a standard Impreza.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Door trim pry tool
  • Screwdriver
  • Unhook your negative battery cable before beginning. All Subaru WRX models are equipped with power windows. Disconnecting them requires unhooking the battery first.

  • Pry off the interior door handle surround cover. Pull the door handle open, and slide the cover around it to remove it.

  • Locate the small black trim panel a few inches below the door arm grip. Pry this panel off and remove the screw located behind it.

  • Inspect the door arm grip to find the retainer plug (facing the front of the vehicle). Pull the plug out to access and remove the screw behind it. The arm grip should be loose.

  • Use the arm grip (attached to the window control panel) to help you remove the window control panel. You have to use the pry tool in conjunction with the arm grip. Once you have removed the panel, disconnect the electrical connection from behind the control panel.

  • Start at the rear portion of the door and begin using the trim tool to disengage the door panel clips. The clips are behind the door panel. Disengage the clips one at a time to successfully remove the door panel. There are 11 around the perimeter of the door panel.
