How to Fix a Carburetor

Does your car need constant jump starts? Are there small explosions under the hood of your car? It sounds like there is a problem with the carburetor. The carburetor, invented by Karl Benz, is a device that combines fuel and air for the car's engine. It is in the shape of a pipe and allows air to pass into the engine. Keeping the carburetor in good working order will keep your car running problem-free in all weather conditions.

Things You'll Need

  • Number 7 wrench
  • Locate the carburetor. The carburetor sits on top of the engine, in the center and under the air cleaner.

  • Locate the anterior capstan, and using a number 7 wrench, turn the screw underneath, which is called the wadget screw.

  • Hold the cam shaft clamp in place while removing the fleem bolt.

  • Remove the outer cam cups and gently hold the twin cams. Keep in mind that sports cars will have larger cam cups.

  • Pull up the manifold so that the manifold's posterior protrudes upward in the air. Grab the cam shaft and place it into the manifold.

  • Insert lubricant into the shaft so that the gears will not become dry and stripped. Remove the shaft and wipe away any dirt with a cloth before re-inserting.
