The Ford Motor Co., the second largest automobile manufacturer in the United States and fifth largest in the world, was founded by Henry Ford in 1903 and is headquartered in Dearborn, Mich. Many Ford vehicles, including the Explorer, Taurus and F-150, were manufactured in years past with "satellite-ready" radios. Satellite-ready radios, while lacking a built-in satellite radio tuner, are able to control an external tuner and save satellite stations, allowing the user to assign them to the radio's preset buttons.
Determine the best location in the vehicle where the satellite radio tuner and the Ford specific radio adapter will be hidden from view, e.g., under the passenger's seat. Predrill the holes to secure the tuner and adapter using a drill and drill bits. Secure the tuner and adapter using the provided screws and a screwdriver.
Disconnect the vehicle's black negative (-) battery cable using a pair of pliers.
Place the antenna on the roof of the vehicle. The antenna contains a strong magnet that will keep it secured once it is set in place. Route the attached antenna cable to the satellite tuner you mounted earlier, hiding the cable in the vehicle's molding and trim pieces as you go. Plug the cable into the identified port on the satellite radio tuner.
Plug the provided cable that connects the satellite radio tuner and the Ford specific radio adapter into the identified ports on both units.
Use a panel removal tool to remove the plastic trim piece that covers the factory radio on the dashboard. Remove the screws that hold the factory radio in place. Pull the radio away from the dashboard, exposing the radio wires.
Insert one end of the provided radio interface cable into the RCA inputs on the back of the vehicle's radio. Route the other end of the interface cable to the Ford radio adapter and plug it into the identified port.
Slide the vehicle's radio back into place on the dashboard and secure it using the screws removed earlier. Press the plastic trim piece back into place. Connect the black negative battery cable to the battery.
