The Volkswagen Golf has a factory-supplied radio, however, you may not be satisfied with it. Depending on the age of your Golf, the radio may be malfunctioning, or the amplifier is not strong enough for your needs, or you simply would like to have a more advanced aftermarket model. Whatever your reasons, it isn't very difficult to install an aftermarket radio in a Volkswagen Golf.
Unbolt the cable from the negative battery terminal. To do this, turn the retaining nut on the cable clamp counterclockwise with the socket wrench. When the clamp loosens up, you can remove it from the terminal.
Place the rag over the tip of the screwdriver and wedge the tip of the screwdriver between the dash and the bezel around the Golf's radio.
Pry the bezel off and set it aside. Locate the screws holding the radio in place.
Remove the retaining screws and take the radio out of the dash.
Unplug the electrical connection from the rear of the radio on the Golf. These are plug-style connectors so they should pull straight out. If you are having trouble, pinch the top and bottom of the connector and wiggle it back and forth while pulling out.
Plug the electrical connection into the new radio and slide the radio into the dash where the old radio was located.
Insert the retaining screws and tighten them.
Place the radio bezel over the new unit and snap it into place. Some aftermarket radio units have their own custom bezel that will fit around the new radio, so you may end up using this bezel instead of the factory one.
