How to Upgrade a Dodge Ram Track Bar

The track bar on a Dodge Ram is responsible for keeping the front axle on the dodge aligned from side to side. The stock track bar has rubber bushings on both sides, which can cause excessive wear and vibrations. This is a particularly big problem if you have larger wheels and tires, because the vibrations can get so large that it becomes difficult to drive at speed. You can correct the problem by upgrading to a new track bar with high-performance bushings or steel rod ends. Installing one should take about an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Open-end wrench set
  • Aftermarket track bar kit
  • Park the Ram on a level surface and set the parking brake. Lift up the front of the Dodge Ram with the jack and put it onto a pair of jack stands.

  • Unbolt the factory trackbar from the axle and frame with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench.

  • Install the bracket for the aftermarket track bar kit onto the frame with the hardware from the kit, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench.

  • Bolt the aftermarket track bar to the bracket and to the axle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and an open-end wrench.
