How to Increase Horsepower With a Flowmaster

Many vehicle owners have turned to Flowmaster for aftermarket exhaust systems designed to increase torque and horsepower. In addition to providing a much more aggressive exhaust note, Flowmaster exhausts provide additional horsepower by replacing the smaller-diameter piping of the factory exhaust system with a much larger system designed specifically for an increase in performance. The larger diameter piping of the Flowmaster systems allows for increased exhaust gas flow in addition to the reduction of overall back pressure in the exhaust system.

Things You'll Need

  • Flowmaster exhaust kit
  • Welding tool
  • Saw
  • Anti-seize lubricant
  • Choose the appropriate Flowmaster kit by going to the Flowmaster website and selecting the vehicle on which the Flowmaster will be installed. Once the kit is purchased and delivered, ensure that the kit includes all of the installation hardware listed in the kit's documentation.

  • Remove the vehicle's factory exhaust system by unclamping and sawing off the factory components. Set aside the factory exhaust tips for use later.

  • Follow the directions provided with the Flowmaster kit for installation of the Flowmaster exhaust system. Installation instructions are specific to each make and model and vary greatly. Prior to installation, verify that all of the necessary hardware is included in the installation kit and that all of the pieces are treated with anti-seize lubricant prior to being connected.

  • Complete the installation by welding all of the connections in the exhaust system, including the old exhaust tip on to the new system.
