What Type of Coolant Do I Use for a 1996 Camry?

The 1996 model year was the final run for the Camry wagon and coupe. On top of these two outgoing models, Toyota also offered a Camry sedan. All three versions of the 1996 Camry came standard with a four-cylinder engine, and had an optional, 3.0-liter V-6 available. Both engines used the same coolant, but the larger V-6 required a little more coolant than the four-cylinder.

Coolant Type and Capacity

  • The 1996 Camry uses ethylene-glycol -- green -- antifreeze mixed with cool, clean water at a 50-50 ratio. The Camry's four-cylinder engine requires 1.7 gallons of coolant, while the V-6 engine needs 2.3 gallons.
