Things You'll Need

  • One of the most critical aspects of proper vehicle maintenance is regularly changing out the spark plugs from your Chrysler 300. This vehicle's engine has 16 different spark plugs. Most vehicles only have 4 to 8 spark plugs depending on the make and model. You can avoid having a mechanic change your plugs by opting to change them out yourself. The task is fairly simple, but it does require a large investment of time.
  • Use your ratchet to remove the hex screws that secure the engine cover in place. Pull the cover off the engine.

  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the passenger side plug set. You will find these on the passenger side of the engine block. Turn the red tab on the connector to the left and push the center clip and then pull off the connector.

  • Pull off the secondary boot wire. This is connected to the second spark plug. Use the ratchet and socket set to remove the 10mm bolts that are securing the coil pack to the vehicle's engine. Remove the coil pack.

  • Use a spark plug ratchet to remove the spark plugs. Turn the plugs to the left to remove them. Use the spark plug ratchet to install the new plugs.

  • Put the coil pack back in place and secure it with the ratchet and bolts. Reconnect the secondary boot wire to the coil pack. Connect the electrical connector to the coil plug set. Repeat steps 1-5 for the other side of the engine.
