How to Repair a Honda CRV Sunroof That Rattles

The Honda CRV is a mid-sized SUV. It comes available with many accessories including a sunroof. If the sunroof rattles too much then this may indicate structural weakness and it should be removed. Removing the sunroof is a simple process that can be completed in a few steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx screwdriver
  • Wrench
  • Screwdriver

Instructions

  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery. This is simply done as a precaution to prevent any electric power from going to the sunroof's motor. If your sunroof does not have a motor then you do not have to disconnect the engine battery.

  • Slide the sunroof open so that you have access to its framework. You will see a set of screws on both sides of the sunroof that help to keep it in place. Slowly remove all the screws using the torx screwdriver. Once you do this you will feel the sunroof loosen a bit and this is a normal reaction.

  • Lift the sunroof glass and remove it from the top of your vehicle. You may have to turn the glass a bit to allow it to slide out from the side bars. You will now be able to visualize the framework lying underneath the sunroof's original location.

  • Loosen the screws on each side of the frame. You should be able to visualize a set of screws on opposite sides of the frame. This is best accomplished with a screwdriver or wrench.

  • Remove the frame from the top of your vehicle. Lift it up gently because it can be both fragile and there may be some residual adhesive material attached to the base. If this is the case then slowly pry it off.
